PRE & POST CARE

Permanent Makeup

Because all permanent makeup procedures are a form of tattooing, scheduling any permanent makeup procedure is something you should think through in advance and it is something you need to be well prepared for.

The preparation of the skin is extremely important, but prep is more than skin-deep, how to prepare your skin for permanent makeup is also about what you put into your body. Depending on the procedure you will be doing, there are several things to keep in mind.

Scroll down to read through everything you need to do pre & post care. As always, if you have questions or concerns, please email or book a free consultation

Note: your skin will be temporarily sensitized after the treatment. This is normal.

Healing can take up to 14 days and it is perfectly normal for small scabbing to appear on the treated area. These scabs should be allowed to fall off naturally over a period of a few days.

  • Do not pick at the tattoo site at any time during healing.
  • Be careful not to get ointment in your eyes and use it sparingly.
  • Do not let the area dry out completely, since this can cause scabbing and cracking of skin surface.
  • Do not touch the treated area.
  • Do not use creams or makeup on the treated area(s).

  • Allow it to soak into the treated area(s) for 30 seconds before blotting with a kleenex. Less is more!
  • Never apply ointment onto damp skin.
  • If irritation occurs, discontinue use.

TIPS FOR SUCCESS

  • Use a cool compress as needed on days 1 & 2. A frozen face cloth works well!

Do not expect your brow tattoos to heal perfectly after the first session.

Permanent Makeup is typically a 2 step process. It can take more for those with autoimmune disorders.

  • Your brow tattoo will take up to 4 weeks to fully heal.
  • Be patient during the healing process as your brows will change and appear different from day to day.
  • Immediately after your procedure, your brows will appear darker and more defined and this will last up to 2 weeks or until it finishes flaking.
  • Your brow tattoo can appear more solid, hair strokes may seem to disappear and it may look wet and painted on.
  • Around days 4-5 you will start to experience some flaking and your brows may look dry. Do not pick your brows. Let any dryness fall off naturally. Picking at flakes/scabs can cause patchy brows and/or scarring.
  • Once flaking has finished, your brows may seem faint. This is due to a fresh layer of skin that has healed over the brow tattoo. After a few weeks your brows will appear darker and more defined.
  • Colour will continue to change on a daily basis until all healing is complete at the 4 week mark.
  • You may experience itchiness in the brows for up to 2 months due to the healing process of the dermal layer.

Additional Facts

Immediately after having any permanent makeup tattoo done. Please do not:

  • expose the area to the sun during the healing process. UV rays can alter the pigment of your tattoo.
  • sweat excessively for 10 days. Sweat contains salt and bacteria which can infect and prematurely fade your brow tattoo. Salt in the sweat may also alter the colour.  Moderate exercise is fine.
  • put your face directly into water. Keep your showers short and warm and the water at your back.
  • use vaseline on your tattoo.
  • use any makeup, creams, exfoliants on the area for 10 days.
  • go into sauna’s, pools, and steam rooms.
  • get massages or facials or skin treatments during the healing process.
  • go tanning and if you do cover your tattoo, uv rays can alter the colour.
  • use exfoliants, retinol acids, or AHA’s on the brow area.  These will fade your tattoo prematurely.
  • use laser light therapy on your brow tattoo. this can darken, lighten, and distort the pigment.

The following tips will help with the longevity  and stability (colour shifting) of your new permanent makeup.

  • Once your tattoo has healed, use a good quality SPF every day. Avoid direct UV exposure.
  • Avoid the use of anti-aging products on and around the treated area to prevent premature fading.
  • Before having facials or using new skin care products, advise your dermatologist/esthetician etc., of your permanent makeup.
  • Laser skin treatments should be avoided as they will impact the colour of the pigment.
